"Come Then"

"So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her." (John 8:7 KJV)

"You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things. And we know that God, in his justice, will punish anyone who does such things. Since you judge others for doing these things, why do you think you can avoid God's judgment when you do the same things? Don't you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can't you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?" (Romans 2:1-4 NLT)

Having seen the other side of this, those that might say Jesus was not God, I can totally understand how important it is to try and destroy any proof of His authority to claim Himself to be God, either by word or action. Why is this simple little encounter so important? If John put this into the text, why would anyone want to remove it?

I can remember my mother saying, "Jesus was not without sin because He got angry and chased everyone out of the Temple." This she said while we were all spending a great amount of time studying with the Jehovah Witness organization; quite a bit of time, like almost every day, so it seemed. I can recall the times when we would meet, studying the new publications, as the practice was to read what was being taught, then look up a particular verse in the Bible, and then agree together, saying, 'So it is written,' as if that proved that the publication was authentic, and from God.

This is not just a story about some woman that has been caught doing something: this is about a Man with authority from Heaven...

""Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink - even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk - it's all free! Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food."" (Isaiah 55:1-2 NLT)
