"The First Step is Easy"

"I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations." (Psalms 89:1)
The one thing that we must understand about God's covenants, is that He keeps His word! We on the other hand, well, let's just say that sheep do what sheep do, they go astray! Do you understand the meaning of that word? Typically, it means to wander off; we start out on the right path, but then we get distracted by something or someone, and we literally get lost and intoxicated by the world and all that it has to offer. Yep, that pretty much sums it up. Solomon is a perfect example of going astray. If you want to see a really good picture of what going astray might look like, then there is your man. No one could do it better: God said, "Do not have multiple wives," well he had a thousand of them; God said, "Do not multiply horses," but Solomon had thousands of them. He could not just sin a little bit, he had to go all out; after all, at the point of sinning against God, quantity really does not matter. Isn't it amazing how that works? God does not care about the amount of sin a persons has committed, but that you confess your sins! In other words, you must take ownership of your sin, before God can forgive you of it. In other words, before God can take your sins away from you, they must first be yours to begin with; He cannot take anything away from you that isn't yours. That was the big difference between David and Saul, Saul refused to take ownership for the sin he committed, David did, saying, "I have sinned against the LORD." (2 Samuel 12:13) But, this is not the first step that I am talking about! No, the first step is God's; God takes the first step, and His is the step that counts! We might not get the whole picture now, but it will all be revealed up in heaven. Every single one of God's children have been His children since the very beginning of time. If you are one of God's children and you don't know it yet, you will, it just hasn't been realized yet, by you. God has you already pegged, and you have been in His hand from the beginning of time; from the foundations of the world...
"This letter is from Paul, chosen by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus. I am writing to God's holy people in Ephesus, who are faithful followers of Christ Jesus. May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Christ Jesus. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure." (Ephesians 1:1-5) NLT
