"Perfect Power"

"For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted." (Psalms 89:17)
I don't know about you, but I am sick and tired of watching people waste good chances to proclaim the Good News, I being at the top of the list! I watched that movie, "I am not Ashamed" last night, and I did not realize it was based on the Christian girl who was killed at Columbine High School. To look at here life, you would think that she wasted so many good chances to proclaim the Good News; most of which were the chances she had with her fellow classmates. The way that she was portrayed, she would party with everyone, but only to a certain point; at which time she would cut it off by saying something about her spirituality not letting her do this or that. It's really kind of crazy the way that God can use someone to proclaim His perfect power; even someone who can't ever really seem to get it together, at least not for any long amount of time. Any strength we think that we might have is nothing unless it is God working through us. Even our weakness can sometimes be used for God's glory, as odd as that might sound. I think a good example of that might be Samson, who from even before the time of his birth was called to be a Nazarite unto God. Things might not always go as our parents planned, but God's plans are never altered, even by the worst type of servants. Heck, for all we know, maybe we will only have a chance to impact one life for God; but that one life might be the life to influence thousands. David is another example, but on a totally different scale. David did spend most of his life serving God in whatever capacity that God had him in, whether that be a shepherd, a soldier, or a king. Unlike Samson, who spent most of his time showing off and having fun with the Philistines, David was more focused on what he had been called to do. But even in his weakest moment, God still was able to use David's life and testimony for His glory. So basically, any strength that David had in that situation was based upon God's mercy and grace; otherwise, David was considered lower than dirt. Can you see how it works? Well, it might be easier to clearly see through the second portion of this verse, which can literally be looked at in several different ways. The word "horn" is mostly meant to mean a sign of power and strength; but it could also be used in a negative or bad sense, as in lifting up one's own 'horn,' which would be a position of pride or taking advantage of the position in which God has placed you, for your own pleasure. In that case, I think the Scripture speaks for itself, and really needs no more interpretation...
"I don't mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. But we must hold on to the progress we have already made." (Philippians 3:12-16) NLT
