"The One I Answer To"

"Princes also did sit and speak against me: but thy servant did meditate in thy statutes." (Psalms 119:23)

And then there are those that accuse and speak against you, as if anyone else but God has the authority to point a finger at one of His own. This is another law in the vertical life, one that we should strictly adhere to, that we answer to God! If there is anything I have learned in all these years of walking with Jesus, my desire should be pleasing the Lord, not so much about pleasing people. Don't get me wrong, we should be about loving others and being a servant to those that God places in our lives; but when it come to who it is we answer to, there is only One that matters. Here is one of those verses where a single little word can make a very big difference in how we see how it works in our own lives, the word "in". He could have said 'on,' and most people would accept it as so, and then they would move on. But instead, he chose "in," which makes it more about his relationship with God and less about God's statutes. God's statutes are the things that are established or definite; the things that we can place ourselves into, things like His promises that are written about those He has called and chosen. There are actually bad forces at work in this world, besides bad people. There are actually so called princes in the unseen world around us, those that sit, as if they are in authority. We are not to fear what they say, or what might be said by their instigations. They too are of this world, and there is nothing here that can actually come against us; not in what matters most that is...

"The Jewish leaders replied, "By our laws he ought to die because he called himself the Son of God." When Pilate heard this, he was more frightened than ever. He took Jesus back into the headquarters again and asked him, "Where are you from?" But Jesus gave no answer. "Why didn't you talk to me?" Pilate demanded. "Don't you realize that I have the power to release you or crucify you?" Then Jesus said, "You would have no power over me at all unless it were given to you from above. So the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin."" (John 19:7-11) NLT
