"Monumental"

"Which by His strength setteth fast the mountains; being girded with power:" (Psalms 65:6) Maybe there is something to it, but have you wondered why some mountains are worshiped? Even if it might seem pagan, it was something that God had a hand in, if for no other reason than to have His people look upon them as a sign of His strength; whether it be Mt. Zion, Mt. Sinai, or even Mt. Moriah, there was something special in the way these monuments were used to explain God's power and strength from generation to generation. If you stop and think about it, there is nothing that stands out as a symbol of strength as much as mountains, especially the really big ones. I can recall my early drives from Southern California to home, and how Mt. Shasta would appear in the morning sun as I was about coming up through Willows, it was ginormous; it would look as though it was at least three to four times bigger that it looked from Redding. And seeing it, it was like viewing the face of God, as if it were a bust showing His immovable power and strength; I could only think about how important it was for my eternal security how He never changes, and how far bigger He is than any issue I might have with doubt or despair. Sometimes I think it helps to have a little reference point to point to God's security, something that stands out above the horizon, something that catches our attention to remind us of God's monumental promises, like, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." In Matthew 17:20, Jesus was speaking about having faith, and He reference a mountain, saying, "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." You want to know something about that mountain? It's still there...
"And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow - not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below - indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:38-39) NLT
