"Dependence on God"

"Blessed is the man whom Thou choosest, and causest to approach unto Thee, that he may dwell in Thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of Thy house, even of Thy holy Temple." (Psalms 65:4) Not quite what I had in mind, but God woke me up this morning with this reminder. And yes, it might be a day here in America when we are celebrating Independence of a nation, but we are steadily forgetting about our dependence upon God. Because this nation was founded upon the principles of God being the one who governs the affairs of men, and that man is subject to the laws of God, we are destined for sure destruction if we abandon those two basic principles of what gives us our independence. Our independence does not come from man or from the State, and it surely does not come from the Federal Government; our complete independence as a nation comes from the fact that we are dependent upon God to govern our lives as a people. I wonder how many people in this country will celebrate independence from God today, as we have made ourselves into something that gives no regard to what God thinks, nor considers Him to be part of our future. Maybe that explains why we are not a major player in Bible prophecy, because we don't really matter in the role of things to come. We are a nation that has become dependent upon and surrounded by stuff, but forgetting where all this stuff comes from, it all comes from God! I don't care how wealthy you are, or how independent you might think that you are because of your wealth, you are dependent upon God for every breath that you take; which means, you are dependent upon God for every deal that you make... "Listen to this message from the LORD, you nations of the world; proclaim it in distant coastlands: The LORD, who scattered His people, will gather them and watch over them as a shepherd does his flock. For the LORD has redeemed Israel from those too strong for them. They will come home and sing songs of joy on the heights of Jerusalem. They will be radiant because of the LORD's good gifts - the abundant crops of grain, new wine, and olive oil, and the healthy flocks and herds. Their life will be like a watered garden, and all their sorrows will be gone. The young women will dance of joy, and the men - old and young - will join in the celebration. I will turn their mourning into joy. I will comfort them and exchange their sorrow for rejoicing. The priests will enjoy abundance, and My people will feast on My good gifts. I, the LORD, have spoken!" (Jeremiah 31:10-14) NLT
