"The Significant Sign"

"This he said, signifying what death he should die." (John 12:33 KJV)

""Where once there were thorns, cypress trees will grow. Where nettles grew, myrtles will sprout up. These events will bring great honor to the LORD'S name; they will be an everlasting sign of his power and love."" (Isaiah 55:13 NLT)

There are only a few things that really matter in this life; and even then, those things pale in comparison to the death of Jesus on the cross! I, as well as many others, tend to forget the significance, as we move and breath upon this earth; being overcome with life, we sometimes skip past how important it was that Jesus paid such a mighty cost to die for our sins.

Thus, the whole reason for communion, that we do not forget! Jesus said, "This do in remembrance of me." He actually meant what He said! We need to remind ourselves how significant it was that He gave His life, willingly and without regret, that we could be with Him forever in His Kingdom!

When you think of it like that, our little issues and problems get pretty small and insignificant! John is making this point because there are some people who forget, skipping past the death part, and moving on to the part about the resurrection or when He ascended up into Heaven.

You would be amazed by the number of churches that focus upon all the blessings and promises of God, but hardly ever speak about hell or the great sacrifice the Lord Jesus Christ suffered, that blessings and promises could be fulfilled. The stuff they mostly preach about are temporary and insignificant, things that involve good health and a prosperous life; those things which will not last, and we don't get to keep!

If there is anything that I have come to realize over the years of taking care of my wife, it is that there is more to living then having good health and a prosperous life...

"Jesus replied, "You are a respected Jewish teacher, and yet you don't understand these things? I assure you, we tell you what we know and have seen, and yet you won't believe our testimony. But if you don't believe me when I tell you about earthly things, how can you possibly believe if I tell you about heavenly things? No one has ever gone to heaven and returned. But the Son of Man has come down from heaven. And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life."" (John 3:10-15 NLT)
