"Just a Slight Mistake"

"Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep." (John 11:13 KJV)

"There is more hope for a fool than for someone who speaks without thinking." (Proverbs 29:20 NLT)

It is really just a slight misunderstanding, as John explains it, at least 30 years after the fact. Things can seem a little fuzzy when you look back at them, the motives might seem less personal, the sequence of events might seem out of place, but the outcome will almost certainly be the same!

I am pretty sure that is why John gives this account the way he does; mostly because I am pretty sure he was the closest to Jesus, making him the one that was most likely the spokesman and go-to guy for all of their complaints and questions. But that's just my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt, please.

By the way, this is not uncommon, as it is the way we will usually examine things, by looking first for the worldly point of view, not the spiritual or wonderworking side of things. You name it, and it is pretty much that type of thing we do. Whether it is something good or something bad, we tend to forget that there is always something unseen attached to it, that we fail to see.

A good example of that, would be a famous sin of David's, which was the sin he committed from his bedroom with Bathsheba. Had he looked at the spiritual side, as he did when he heard Goliath spouting out cursing's about his God, he would have noticed the trap he was about to get caught in.

Just so happens I heard a really good message about this, basically the same principle, yesterday. The message was about when David was going to pursue Nabal for sending his men away empty. He really did not see the big deal of what he was about to do, as he was anointed to be king, and a man of God, wasting his time on killing a fool.

But Abigail, the wife of Nabal, became the spiritual eyes for David to see through, causing him to say to her, "Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which sent thee this day to meet me: and blessed be thy advice, and blessed be thou, which has kept me this day from coming to shed blood, and from avenging myself with mine own hand." (1 Samuel 25:32-33)

We can pretend that we are alone in this, but we are never alone, ever...

"Humble yourself therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he might exalt you in due time: casting all your cares on him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour; whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world." (1 Peter 5:6-9 KJV)
