"Praise the LORD! Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. Who can list the glorious miracles of the LORD? Who can ever praise him enough? There is joy for those who deal justly with others and always do what is right." (Psalm 106:1-3 NLT)
Maybe this is the straw that broke the camel's back; but it should have been the word of knowledge that set their hearts upon what was right before their eyes: a miracle! If you are familiar with Psalm 106, then you should know that it is the Psalm that goes into detail of Israel's rebellion against God, and shows us how, regardless of God's glorious miracles, they still continued to not believe that He loved them and would take care of them!
We might not get it, as many people don't; but believing that God really does love us, is more than just an act of faith, it is the essence of worship. As Jesus spoke to the woman at the well, He said, "Ye worship ye know not what; we know what we worship; for salvation is of the Jews." (John 4:22 KJV)
Forgiveness after unfaithfulness, really does go a long way! Yet, God is always faithful to forgive us, over and over again, despite our gravity towards disobedience and rebellion. Always missing the mark, as it were; because the Mark we seek to hit, we fail to pay attention to: The Love of God!
Had these learned men opened you their hearts, they might have noticed what matters most to God. More than anything else, love is what we need, not rules and regulations, but real love for God and one another! Had they seen the need for love, they truly might have listened. But then again, they too were just as they were, tools being used for God's ultimate purpose...
"Even so, he pitied them in their distress and listened to their cries. He remembered his covenant with them and relented because of his unfailing love." (Psalm 106:44-45 NLT)
