"A Footpath"

"Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight." (Psalms 119:35)

It is pretty obvious which way we should go; it might be the narrow path, but it is the one that stands out the most. To see this in the light of understanding God's law, it is much like trying to cross through a valley or meadow that is overgrown with weeds and brush; yet, stretching across the valley is a single path well traveled and preserved, one that is easy to follow, because it is not overgrown. This is what it is like to walk in the path of God's commandments; there really is not a whole lot of thought that needs to go into the direction you should take or what comes next, because it is all about God's way and pleasure, not our own. How often do we rise up in the morning and ask the Lord, 'What would you like me to do today, Jesus?' I mean, if we are being honest, we talk a good game, saying, 'Lord, take my life today, and do with it what you will,' and then we finish our devotions and it is as if a new day has just begun; that day we offered up to the Lord just ended, and now we are off the subject and onto something else. Maybe that is not your reality; maybe you are working full time in the ministry, so your day is all about serving the Lord. I pray that is your passion and not just a job. Sometimes we can get tangled up in the working part of doing anything, even if it's just raising a family. But God has given us instruction in just about anything we can be involved in, whether it is raising children or running a country. There is nothing in this world that is outside of the counsel of God! I know that many people think there is; as if all the new technology and gadgets we have give life new meaning, putting the Bible in some kind of a time period of years gone by. But it is really just all distractions to get us to take our eyes off the path; making false little paths all over the place and causing things as simple as raising children to be far too complicated for the average mother and father. We just need to stick to the path...

"Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves his children too. We know we love God's children if we love God and keep his commandments. Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome." (1 John 5:1-3) NLT
