"New Covenant"

"He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love." (S.O.S. 2:4)

Sometimes it is just hard to understand, but there is something that we need from one another, besides just fellowship, we are a family! That might be one of the bitter-sweet characteristics that we get to partake in, sometimes it might even be to some as a cross to bare; mostly, it is just a fact, we must learn to accept and adhere to, whether we want to or not, it is required!
I think that John expresses it the best, as he says, "Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth. He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. He that loveth his brother adideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes." (1 John 2:8-11)
That is what this "banqueting house" is all about, and it is past tense because you cannot change it, you must embrace it as a new commandment; commandment meaning that it is a law that is part of a New Covenant: A covenant that has been established and sealed by the body and blood of Jesus Christ, forever! Basically, the kind of law that it is, is just as the natural law that goes along with anything that is fixed or unchanging: you freeze water and it turns to ice; you heat ice, and it will turn to water; you continue to heat the water and it turns to steam; eventually, that steam will evaporate and be gone.
I know, sometimes I get a little carried away; please forgive me for the drama. But seriously, that whole point about this reference to a "banner," it is the same as those four large military standards or flags that the four camps into which the twelve tribes of Israel divided and marched through the wilderness under. We know what that was all about, because that formation was in the shape of a cross; a big giant cross that marched through the wilderness for forty years!
It seriously does not matter if you were someone that was looking forward to the cross, or were like us, looking back at the cross, it is still the same cross, the exact same sacrifice that is given once and for all. That is why Jesus could say, "Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me; as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you." (John 13:33)
This was won and done! This New Covenant is a noun, which means that it is a person, place or thing, which means that it is fixed in place and is established: "It is a promise of redemption by God to people as individuals rather than as a nation and on the basis of God's grace rather than a person's adherence to the law." (Merriam-Webster Definition.)
Basically, it is like this: You have been brought into this amazingly wonderful and fulfilling relationship, not because of anything that you have done, but by what Christ has done for you...

"Therefore, since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God's glory. We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trial, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love." (Romans 5:1-5) NLT
