"Holding On"

"I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please." (S.O.S. 2:7)

Maybe this might be a little more complicated than I predicted; as it is, it would appear that there is more to these, "daughters of Jerusalem," than I might have first considered, because it would appear that they have a way of showing up in intimate moments. Actually, I believe that this is really not all that uncommon; as much as I might try to focus upon worshipping and giving the Lord my most sincere attention, there is this obvious distraction during those intimate moments. Call is what you will; maybe will will do, as in: not my will, but yours, O Lord!
It might be safe to say that this is a moment where there is something that is needing to be kept, like the special time when you feel overwhelmed by His presence and you don't want that moment to slip away. Or, as it might be said, she is just dreaming; these last several verses have been a dream and she knows when he awakes, it will be time for reality; that time when it will be time to go to work, as if that might require some serious action. As one commentator puts it: "Let our love making continue without interruption until we are both fulfilled. Don't let us start until we can go all the way."
In the spiritual application, (no pun intended,) that is the deeper meaning, "Where the rubber hits the road," so to speak. It is much to do about doing; now that you have heard, now that you know: now it is time to do something! Maybe we need to examine this more, because it might be going a little too fast; I'm not quite sure that I am ready; can't I just rest in this comfortable place! Most of us know what this is, because it is what most of us do. Only a small percent of us actually make a sacrifice that will radically change our lives and place in the mission field or head-off into the ministry.
That said, this is also a moment when we need to hold on! It is one thing to step back and think about what you are doing; is another thing all together, to deny that He has changed your life! No, this is the most important of all the things that matter: Is This Real, or is it my own imagination! Not that is matters much to those world around you, but your world needs to be somewhere else! Sure, you are still here, still living and doing what it takes, what is required; but you are no longer a citizen of this place, but you have become a child of God, making you a citizen of Heaven!
I don't know about you, but I am looking forward to His return, to that day when He can take us from this place; but in the time we have before that happens, we seriously need to be about our Father's business...

"How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (Romans 10:14-17)
