"Know Your Enemy" -2

"My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword." (Psalms 57:4) One thing is for sure, God is not your enemy! I really don't care what you have done, or even what you are doing right now, God loves you and wants only the very best for your life, especially your eternal life. We on the other hand are not so caring and loving; it's sad, I know, but it is so true; we are not as strong as we think that we are, and if we do not realize that is the case, then we are going to constantly fail at trying to love. Real love that is required to love with the kind of love that God has for us, can only come from God; any form or attempt to fabricate this love on our own will only disappoint, and is altogether phony; it is a love based upon an idea, not the true love of God. If I had to point to any particular weakness that we have, I would point to the way that we naturally love one another; which is closely aliened with the descriptions given within the verse above. The "lions", which I do believe are described again in a previous Psalm (22:13), are not really so much lions per say, but are depicted as such because of their roar; if they were to be lions, then they would be more like a lioness, which is always just interested in drawing first milk, as in, a hunger to be satisfied, with a hunger that is really never satisfied. If we base our love upon any sort of feelings or emotions, then those feelings and emotions will be that which is the basic hunger of our love, and it will be a love that is really never satisfied; at least it will not be satisfied for long. As far as "them that are set on fire", without getting into a very lengthy discussion on the breakdown in communication, I would just refer this one over to James 3:1-4:12, where he spells all the ways in which we can tear one another down, instead of lifting one another up; which is also a part of this need for some kind of satisfaction, the satisfaction that is missing in our made up love. Bottom line, your enemy is really your wicked heart, as hard is that is to comprehend. We are never going to be at place where our hearts are totally aliened with God's heart, not in this world, so we need to stop thinking as though we have obtained something, or as if we have arrived at the place where we know how to love, because we actually don't know anything unless it is God's love that we are walking in. It does not matter how long you have been a Christian, or even how long that you have been in ministry; if you are not totally dependent upon God to supply the love in your heart, then you have missed the point, and your house is not built upon the "Sure Foundation"...
"Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem. Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves: therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste." (Isaiah 28:14-16)
