"Yes, LORD!" - Too

"A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things." (Ecclesiastes 10:19 KJV)

"One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to have dinner with him, so Jesus went to his home and sat down to eat. When a certain immoral woman from the city heard he was eating there, she brought a beautiful alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume. Then she knelt behind him at his feet, weeping. Her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them off with her hair. Then she kept kissing his feet and putting perfume on them. When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would know what kind of woman is touching him. She's a sinner!" Then Jesus answered his thoughts, "Simon." he said to the Pharisee, "I have something to say to you." "Go ahead, Teacher," Simon replied. Then Jesus told him this story: "A man loaned money to two people - 500 pieces of silver to one and 50 pieces to the other. But neither of them could repay him, so he kindly forgave them both, canceling their debts. Who do you suppose loved him more after that?"" (Luke 7:36-42 NLT)

As much as I would like to say, 'I told you so,' I feel as though there is more to this than just simple illustration and the reason the Holy Spirit has brought me to this Scripture. I have heard it said that it is easier to save someone that truly knows that they are a sinner, than it is to save someone who has been raised up in the church, thinking that they really don't have any sins, to speak of.

This might not be easy, but I will try to explain what this might look like, today or tomorrow; either way, it has got to make sense! There are three things that Solomon is bringing to the table: A feast, wine, and money. All three of them have something in common, but they don't necessarily mean what is being shown that they might do.

Starting with the last, because it is the sum of all three, all balled up into one: Money truly does not answer all things! Jesus gives this illustration in several different ways, throughout every one of the Gospels. Yes, money does make a difference; some for good, and some for not; but we should never count on money to take care of us or treat money as if it is the answer to all that we need.

People who don't understand what money can do, don't realize it soon enough, until they have none; at which time, they either will trust in God, or they will search for ways to make money! I would say, look to find ways to honor God, letting Him be the source that keeps them fat and happy...

"This is what the LORD says: "Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Could you build me such a temple as good as that? My hands have made both heaven and earth; they and everything in them are mine. I, the LORD, have spoken! "I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts, who tremble at my word. But those who choose their own ways - delighting in their detestable sins - will not have their offerings accepted. When such people sacrifice a bull, it is no more acceptable than a human sacrifice. When they sacrifice a lamb, it's as though they had sacrificed a dog! When they bring an offering of grain, they might as well offer the blood of a pig. When they burn frankincense, it's as if they had blessed an idol. I will send them great trouble - all the things they feared. For when I called, they did not answer. When I spoke, they did not listen. They deliberately sinned before my very eyes and chose to do what they know I despise."" (Isaiah 66:1-4 NLT)
