"If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be." (Ecclesiastes 11:3 KJV)
"All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT)
Looking at this from a little different angle, Solomon makes two points that are the of the same instance, based upon the colon, which makes the second portion amplify the first. Even though they might seem to be two totally different subjects, there is something that they have in common, that bases the reason for there to be a certain connection, in a special way.
What pray-tell could this special connection be? For one, Certainty! Much as God's says in Isaiah 55:11, "It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it." If God proclaims it will be, then that is what it will be, end of the argument!
As to the uncertainties of life, who can say with certainty when there will be rain, or which way the tree might fall? There is no one who can predict when and what might happen, except God! I get so messed up by planning my activities based upon my phones forecast of the weather. They might have a pretty good call of what will happen within the hour; but when they start giving weather reports a week out, it's just speculation most of the time; so, don't plan for a trip to your favorite campsite, if you aren't willing to get wet.
This is the main argument for the authenticity of the Bible, that God's word shows us things that were to happen, way before they actually happened. Just the things which were happening when Jesus came to die on the cross, He fulfilled something like 300 prophecies. They say that just eight things which had happened, enter the realm impossible.
There might be some things in the Bible which cannot be understood, but there is nothing that cannot be believed...
"Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation. By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed by God's command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen." (Hebrews 11:1-3 NLT)
