"He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap." (Ecclesiastes 11:4 KJV)
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart: do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take." (Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT)
Without thinking too hard about it, there are two major points to this verse that will put this into the right perspective: Sowing and Reaping, which are two totally different things, but they work together, as one. There is this one point made in 1 Corinthians 3:5-11 about those who sow and those who water; but this is about something totally different.
Again, making this relevant to the uncertainties of life, there is certainty shown here, but it is learned by the individual, not something that they plan for or carry out. Case in point: the point about observing the wind, basically means that if it is windy out, then the person concerned about the wind will not cast out their seeds, because they fear they will not go where they want them to go; and regarding the clouds, if there is chance the rain might come during the harvest, the stored produce might get moldy or soggy.
These are not bad things, for the farmer; but if we are talking about someone that is letting God lead their life, then we are talking about a whole different subject. The are uncertainties and then there are things we must be certain of; when it comes to letting go and letting God take control of our life, we might be uncertain about what might happen along the way, but we can be certain God will carry us through whatever we might have to go through.
This life is totally and completely filled with uncertainties, there is no doubt about it! But God's plans are certain: they will be carried out, to the very end. He knows the beginning and the end...
"This is what the LORD says, "You will be in Babylon for seventy years. But then I will come and do for you all the good things I have promised, and I will bring you home again. For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. I will be found by you," says the LORD. "I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and will bring you home again to your own land."" (Jeremiah 29:10-14 NLT)
