"Unintelligible"

"Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?" (John 3:9 KJV)

"And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and the crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them." (Isaiah 42:16 KJV)

For the sake of time, I will say that Nicodemus is being very sincere in his answer to what Jesus has just told him; as a matter of fact, he is so sincere, he is doing that which Jesus has just instructed him to do, and he is marveling at what Jesus said. If you don't know what that means, it means that he is trying to picture it in the things he is familiar with, instead of allowing the words Jesus has said, to mean exactly what Jesus has said; Period!

Don't tell me you don't know what I am talking about, because we all know we have done it ourselves. Someone might tell you to do something, using a way you have never known before, and you just don't understand it, because it is not how you know it to work. A great example of that is giving tithes, when you don't have tithes to give. Duh! Where does that money you hold in your hand come from?

Anywho, this is a very good illustration of something we don't understand, being something we cause to stop us from understanding; wondering how it works, does not make it work! If we could imagine all the things we see as impossible, seemingly become possible by our own design, nothing would become of anything, until it was put to the test. That is exactly what God means when He says, "Prove me," as He is asking us to step out and see that what He says is true! (Malachi 3:10)

It is not as if Nicodemus did not want to know the truth, because he was very interested in wanting to understand what Jesus was trying to say. His way of thinking was not going to make him see what he could not see; he needed to change his way of thinking in order to comprehend what Jesus was telling him. Something I feel is common to just about every disagreement we have among each other!

Not that we cannot figure out how to agree, because we can agree to disagree; but we cannot stand being wrong about what we believe. Just ask God to open the eyes of your heart, to place love into the conversation; then it will all make perfect sense! Matthew Henry says, "Thus many profess to admit the doctrine of Christ in general, and yet will neither believe the truths of Christianity nor submit to the laws of it further than they please. Christ shall be their teacher, provided they may choose their lesson."

I truly believe this is something we all deal with in some way and on so many levels...

"I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he has called - his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance." (Ephesians 1:18 NLT)
