"Don't Waste Your Breath"

"Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me." (John 14:30 KJV)

"We know that God's children do not make a practice of sinning, for God's Son holds them securely, and the evil one cannot touch them. We know that we are children of God and that the world around us is under the control of the evil one. And we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life. Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God's place in your hearts." (1 John 5:18-21 NLT)

The King James Version says, "Keep yourselves from idols," at the end of verse 21; which in some strange way, is the point of this post, the word, "Idol," which means something that has no substance, especially when it comes to God! I know, that might sound as if it changes the subject of what Jesus is telling the disciples; but in reality, Jesus is letting them know a couple of things the enemy, the devil: as he is the prince of this world, but he has nothing on Jesus!

The disciples most likely figured Jesus to be the Prince of the world, being He was the Prince of Peace. So, when Jesus spoke about the devil, as the prince, they might have flinched a little and lost their train of thought. Most likely, that was the whole point of why Jesus said what He said, "Hereafter I will not talk much with you."

Two things that we must understand, putting into practice the habit of speaking truth, and making it your goal to not speak idle talk! Both of which are very important in the Kingdom of God! We might not think it is such a big deal, maybe because of that silly saying we all grew up with: "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me." That might count for the receiver, but not for the speaker!

While we have breath in our lungs, we should not waste our breath on idle talk! But how much of that stuff comes out of our mouths? A lot like idols, idle talk has no substance, especially when it comes to God! We need to watch what we say, and be busy about our Father's business...

""A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgement day for every idle word you speak. The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you."" (Matthew 12:35-27 NLT)
