"Solemn Moment" - 2

"After that he poured water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded." (John 13:5 KJV)

"For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God's word. He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault." (Ephesians 5:25-27 NLT)

I know sometimes I might get a little carried away and have a hard time explaining what it is that I feel the Lord is showing me; but this act of humility that Jesus is showing, it is not just for show! If you try hard to see what John is showing us, this is Jesus demonstrating the power of His own humility! If you aren't a god, then you probably can't truly understand, (as if I could either,) what it is like to have the power to do anything, and the ability to be humble, humbler than we could ever understand.

Matthew Henry, whom I feel gets stuff a little better than most, says: "Many interpreters consider Christ's washing his disciples' feet as a representation of his whole undertaking. He knew that he was equal the God, and all things were his; and yet he rose from his table in glory, laid aside his robes of light, girded himself with our nature, took upon him the form of a servant, came not to be ministered to, but to minister, poured out his blood, poured out his soul unto death, and thereby prepared a laver to wash us from our sins, (Rev. 1:5)."

There are just some things we find hard to understand, but this shouldn't be one...

"Under the old covenant, the priest stands and ministers before the alter day after day, offering the same sacrifices again and again, which can never take away sins. But our High Priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then he sat down in the place of honor at God's right hand. There he waits until his enemies are humbled and made a footstool under his feet. For by one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy." (Hebrews 10:11-14 NLT)
