"Out of Control"

"My soul is continually in my hand: yet I do not forget thy law." (Psalms 119:109)

These are very serious matters of the heart, because in all sincerity, we truly do have no control over life and death issues, they are all based upon God's will and purposes. Why would God allow this or that to happen? There are some things we question God's intention about, where it is really not our place to question. Who are we to try and figure out God's plans and purposes? We can not even control our own hearts, how can we pretend to be able to control the world around us. This verse speaks powerfully to the point James makes in James 4:11-17. In verses 12, James declares, speaking about those who think that can judge others, "There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and destroy: who art thou that judgest another?" We are all just clay in the hand of the Master Craftsman, the Potter. When we try to make something, the clay becomes sand; as David illustrates, the sand just slips through our figures and cannot be held onto! Which James explains further in verses 13-17, as he shows how evil it is for anyone to believe that he controls tomorrow: "Whereas, ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away." When it comes to remembering God's law, in matters of life and death, we need to focus upon those things we can have a choice in controlling, our actions and words. These are the serious matters that need to concern us: How does my life affect those around me? That sand running though my figures, is just for counting my days, or is it for making my days count...

"Can anything ever separate us from Christ's love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, "For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.") No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love. Neither death nor life, neither angels or demons, neither fears for today nor worries about tomorrow -not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below -indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:35-39) NLT
