"The Appointment"

"For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:" (Hebrews 5:1 KJV)

"So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now! This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him." (2 Corinthians 5:16-18 NLT)

There are several points to see in this, so called, "appointment", which is an example of what takes place in our lives, once we have accepted God's offer of Salvation. Much like the appointment of a high priest, it is an appointment that is chosen by God, not something that a man can plan on or try to make happen on his own. Much like the word, "taken," which is shown in the verse above, God knows who He wants and how to capture him; meaning that the person is really not aware of what God will do, until it is done!

Much like what happened to Paul on the road to Damascus, he set out to do something he felt called to do, only to find out that God had something else instore for him; pretty much the opposite of what he thought he was meant to do. He was 'taken from among men, ordained for men in things pertaining to God.'

Instead of persecuting those who followed Jesus, he became a vessel to persuade people to follow Jesus! What an amazing change was that! Much like the change I had, but on a smaller scale. I had no clue who Jesus was, except that He grew up a carpenter, became a good teacher, and ended up crucified. Other than that, I really didn't know how important He really was; but that sure changed in an instant!

I know that everyone doesn't have the same conversion experience; but I am pretty certain that almost everyone isn't prepared for it, when it happens...

"So it is God who decides to show mercy. We can neither choose it nor work for it." (Romans 9:16 NLT)
