"Man's Delight"

"Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people; thou hast covered all their sin. Selah." (Psalms 85:2)
There is absolutely no doubt that God loves us; anyone who does not see that, does not understand who Jesus was and what took place on that cross. What a great thing has been done for all of us, yet there are so few who actually receive it. Don't you think that is rather odd? I mean, why it is that so many would rather die in their sins, than do the one thing that saves them from hell, and it is right there, freely given, and theirs for the asking. It's really not all that hard to understand; that is unless you are blinded by the darkness in your life, and you cannot even see your own darkness. I truly think that's the problem, most people don't see themselves as all that bad; some, believe it or not, think that they are actually good, good enough to be counted righteous. To those that are lost, the cross makes no sense, whatsoever; they just can't see how it would make any difference, one way or another. I know, because I once was just the same; I couldn't even understand that the cross was anything more than a religious symbol; and at the time, I wanted nothing to do with religion, of any kind, let alone one that forced you to look to a cross. I can still remember the vision inside my mind the moment I said yes to God's gift of salvation, it was Jesus on the cross! The Creator of everything, giving His all, to save all that care to receive it; and I was blown away! For all those times that I wondered if God actually cared for me, and if He really loved me. That Sunday School song I sung as a kid, "Yes, Jesus loves me," always played in my mind whenever I was feeling lost and afraid. And then, just like that, I saw how much He really loved me! Arms spread wide, He was saying, "I love you this much." Wow, no one can ever convince me that that is not awesome and amazing...
"The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God. As the Scriptures say, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and discard the intelligence of the intelligent." So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world's brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe. It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom. So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it's all nonsense. But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God's weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength." (1 Corinthians 1:18-25) NLT
