"Cause and Effect"

"He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance." (Psalms 78:62) Simple logic should have convinced anyone trying to worship idols, you're not going to please God by doing that, so don't do it. But do you think that stops anyone bent on believing the lie? In case you missed it, idols are false gods; typically, false gods are established upon false beliefs, which are all originated in wickedness; and wickedness originated in one place. I know we want to point the finger at Adam, because Adam's sin is what made us all to be sinners by inheritance; but it actually started in heaven, most likely before the earth was even created. There is only one being to point the finger at, and his name is the devil. Whenever Jesus replied to any accusation that He was some how associated with the devil, He made sure to reference the sharp contrast between the truth and the lie, light and darkness, and holiness and wickedness. There is really no way to associate any of those things together, yet we seem to try and assume that we can somehow take part in all those things that are of the lie, darkness and wickedness, without somehow being separated from the truth, light and holiness of God. One of the first verses I remember memorizing as a new Christian was Psalms 103:12: "As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us." This was not the very first, but it was one of the first. It is an important verse to memorize and keep the proper perspective on what it means, because there are a couple rules of thumb on the simple logic the is associated with 'east verse west' and what different directions have to do with truth, light and holiness. I remember this verse first being illustrated to me as the proof that the Bible shows us the world is round; which might be the reason I made it one of my first memory verses. But in relationship to sin, there are a couple different points made it this illustration; one is what God does with our sin, and the other is what we do with sin...
"And when people escape from the wickedness of the world by knowing our Lord and Savor Jesus Christ and then get tangled up and enslaved by sin again, they are worse off than before. It would be better if they had never known the way to righteousness than to know it and then reject the command they were given to live a holy life. They prove the truth of this proverb: "A dog returns to it's vomit." And another says, "A washed pig returns to the mud."" (2 Peter 2:20-22) NLT
