"The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself." (Ecclesiastes 10:12 KJV)
""But the third servant brought back only the original amount of money and said, 'Master, I hid your money and kept it safe. I was afraid because you are a hard man to deal with, taking what isn't yours and harvesting crops you didn't plant.' "'You wicked servant!' the king roared. 'Your own words condemn you. If you knew that I'm a hard man who takes what isn't mine and harvested crops I didn't plant, why didn't you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.'"" (Luke 19:20-23 NLT)
Coming to this verse was something I really didn't expect; most of the messages I have heard regarding, "The Parable of The Ten Servants," it was always about talents, or the gifts people are given, or the works of ministry; but there is something more about this than just what we do, as in actions and our abilities. This is about what we think about the Lord: Is He LORD!
Finishing up on Deuteronomy today, most likely this morning as it has a song that is meant to declare all things the LORD had done for the children of Israel. The chapter I just finished was rather interesting, as God tells Moses that the people of Israel will turn away from Him and start worshipping other gods. Then Moses tells the people what God has said, and so far, there has been no one stepping up to challenge that accusation.
Maybe it isn't that we don't trust Him like we should, but more about ourselves, that we know the real conditions of our hearts, and we know that He won't be willing to help in our times of need? If it really is the way the story goes in those last chapters, then we have every right to wonder if He really will, seeing that He has said: ""Then my anger will blaze forth against them. I will abandon them, and they will be devoured. Terrible trouble will come down on them, and on that day they will say, 'These disasters have down on us because God is no longer among us!'"" (Deuteronomy 31:17 NLT)
Maybe it is time to return to that place where you once felt loved, and you knew He loved you more than you could ever know! It is never too late to ask for forgiveness...
"And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children? He said, "My child, don't make light of the LORD'S discipline, and don't give up when he corrects you. For the LORD disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child."" (Hebrews 12:5-6 NLT)
