"Uncommitted"

"For their heart was not right with him, neither were they steadfast in his covenant." (Psalms 78:37) I guess that the simple way to understand how this works, is to first examine our own hearts compared to God's. What a huge contrast between those two versions of commitment; talk about apples and oranges, they are more like comparing apples and rocks; the only those two things have in common is that they can both be thrown. Commitment is something that requires determination to make something work. In marriage, it does not let failure become an option, ever! That is a pretty good reason we have so many failed marriages in this new generation, because failure has become so acceptable; 'If at first you don't succeed, move on to something else,' has become our new pattern of living; so is it any wonder that so many couples don't try to work harder on keeping their marriage from failing? As I said before, understanding our relationships between one another is pretty easy, because we all are flawed in the area of love and commitment. But God, who is not like us, is always steadfast in His love and commitment towards us; so much so, that what we lack is made up for by His abundant love and commitment to us. That does not work very well within our marriages; it's really hard for one person in the relationship to have enough love and commitment for both; it's not impossible, but it sure is hard. In our relationship with God, our role is to be more like the life of a servant or a slave of a Master who is loving and caring and committed to do what is best for us. It is hard for us to relate to that, but it must be done. We cannot figure out everything there is to know about God; but we sure can except what He has shown us! Forget about commitment for the moment, and look at our ability to love God the way that we should; because we all lack the ability to love Him with 'all of our heart, mind, soul, and strength.' I mean, really! Can anyone say truthfully that they can? We can't even meet Him half way...
"Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. Your filth will be washed away, and you will no longer worship idols. And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations." (Ezekiel 36:25-27) NLT
