"The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?" (John 6:41-42 KJV)
"And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natual; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly." (1 Corinthians 15:45-49 KJV)
Just is case you might have wondered where, "The Cooing of Doves," might have been taken from, it is one of the definitions for the word that murmuring comes from. Must be some sort of a pattern, if that is even the way to describe what murmuring looks like, especially when those that murmur have no clue what they are talking about and have not basis to be raising a question that they can't even answer on their own.
As Paul is sharing about, in 1 Corinthians 15, those that are earthy, cannot connect a thought with that which is heavenly; they might murmur about such things, speculation is about as far as they might get; but until they have the Spirit living in them, they are, at best, speaking from the head, not from the heart. Even then, they cannot make proper sense of what they might have thought about, because there is nothing to connect those thoughts to, besides their earthly home.
Anywho, those are my thoughts, so don't try and make too much about them. This is just another way that John is showing the disconnect between the Jews and their Messiah! He was right there, speaking directly to them, and they did not believe Him, because they could not see who He was; they just couldn't get past the earthy! Probably wasn't their fault...
"The said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots." (Luke 23-34 KJV)
