"Also our bed is green." (S.O.S. 1:16b)
If you don't know what this means, it is not all that unusual, because there is a certain type of people that really don't look for change and newness; some people just don't get all that excited about things that are unstructured or take them out of their comfort zone. As a matter of fact, if you get right down to it, most people are fine if you don't change anything or disturb the routine of their daily life; if it happens, some people will actually start to feel threatened and on edge.
This is about something that can work, ever so slightly, even for the most structured person, if they will simply ask the Lord to use their life and make a vessel for Him to use. That does not mean you need to become a missionary or even start going door to door speaking to people about Jesus; but what it does mean, is that you are willing to allow the Lord to change you; whatever that means, is totally between you and the Lord.
Matthew Henry says it like this: "Our bed is green, a color which, in a pastoral, is preferred before any other, because it is the color of fields and groves where the shepherd's business and delight are. It is a refreshing color, good for the eyes; and it denotes fruitfulness. I am like a green olive tree, Psalms 52:8."
This is what we should look for in the relationship between two people in love; as it should be, there is always a delightful and new experience that is the spark that keeps the fire burning inside. But, maybe that is something we expect from those that are newly married; us older couples, we just are satisfied with sharing about old times and happy enough to still be together. Such is life...
"Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God." (Romans 7:4)
