"Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself." (Hebrews 7:27 KJV)
"For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God, while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed. He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and make his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds." (Titus 2:11-14 NLT)
Besides the brutal death that Jesus suffered on that cross, He had to hold back from stopping all of what was taking place, which is something He surely could have done, if that is, He actually wanted to! As many have said, "He could have called out thousands of angels, to save Him from that cross," yet He choose to be the sacrifice for all our sins, and to do the work that His Father wanted!
Thinking what that might have looked like from the Father's view, it is only reasonable for Jesus to ask Him to forgive all those who were cursing Him, hating Him, and causing Him so much pain. This was no longer a threat or terrible thing for Jesus; it had now become His passion! His greatest desire was to please the Father and to fulfill the will of the Father's love for the entire world, which was why He came into this world: to be the sacrifice for our sins!
Now, hopefully we don't need to debate anymore about why He had to put Himself upon that cross; because there are so many Old Testament Scriptures that show how important and needful it was to get it done. Everyone has sinned! As the Bible clearly says, "There is none righteous, no not one." (Romans 3:10) Yet there are many who do not believe that they need salvation; thinking that their good deeds will be enough!
The passion that Jesus had for the cross, should be the passion that we have to reach the lost! This goes out to those who study the Scriptures, yet disregard the deity of Jesus Christ...
"With Christ as my witness, I speak with utter truthfulness. My conscience and the Holy Spirit confirm it. My heart is filled with bitter sorrow and unending grief for my people, my Jewish brothers and sisters. I would be willing to be forever cursed - cut off from Christ! - if that could save them. They are the people of Israel, chosen to be God's adopted children. God revealed his glory to them. He made covenants with them and gave them his law. He gave them the privilege of worshiping him and receiving his wonderful promises. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are their ancestors, and Christ himself was an Israelite as far as his human nature is concerned. And he is God, the one who rules over everything and is worthy of eternal paise! Amen." (Romans 9:1-5 NLT)
