"I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him." (Ecclesiastes 3:14 KJV)
"My enemies surround me like a pack of dogs; and evil gang closes in on me. They have pierced my hands and feet. I can count all my bones. My enemies stare at me and gloat. They divide my garments among themselves and throw dice for my clothing." (PSALM 22:16-18 NLT)
There are a lot of things we might not know about from generations thousands of years ago; but there is one thing that God had set in motion, from the very beginning; even before the foundation of the earth! Which, if you want to consider it, the only reason some might think the earth is flat, might be because it has a foundation. Although, I'm pretty sure that Foundation is Jesus Christ!
There are a couple of things that I would like to remember to share about before getting too far out sequence: The first of which is Eve. Adam named his wife twice; the first time he named her, she was called "Woman," as he said she was taken out of man. After the fall, he renamed her, "Eve," which was to mean, "the Mother of all living."
In the Book of Romans, Paul shows a picture of Adam, as he is the one by which sin and death entered the world, thereby signifying that Adam was the father of death, saying, "For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many." (Romans 5:15b NLT) Therefore, it is easy to understand that the curse that we put upon Satan pointed to the Savior, that would come from the seed of the woman, which is odd to happen, since the seed comes from man!
As I said, we don't know every detail of what they knew, how smart they were, or how much they actually understood about what God told them; or whether He told them no more than what the Bible says or told them everything that He had planned. But for Adam to name his wife, Eve, after the fall, then he should have at least understood the Savior would be born from a virgin, or the very least, that a woman would have a child without the help of a man.
Thereby, Eve, who was first named Woman, because she was taken from man; became Eve, by whom the Son of Man would be taken from a woman. Therefore, the Woman, who was the first, now was called the Mother of all living, because out of a woman would be born the One to give life!
Anywho! That's a lot of something to think about, but it this particular verse that we are dealing with, if I didn't know any better, has all the signs that point to the cross! As I thought about it, there are many things which God does that do not last for ever; the flood demonstrated that, the first time God judged the whole world for their sins. A lot of things changed after the flood, especially the life span of mankind, who lived hundreds of years, but then lived only for decades.
This one thing, the cross of Christ, and everything that was placed in motion, from before the foundation of the earth; it was all about the Son of God being the One to deliver us from sin and death, and giving us righteousness and life; all for the ability for us to have real fellowship with a Holy God...
"Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us though his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe. The Son radiates God's own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God of heaven. This shows that the Son is far greater than the angels, just as the name God gave him is greater than their names." (Hebrews 1:1-4 NLT)
