"I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it." (Ecclesiastes 3:10 KJV)
""By the sweat of your brow will you have food to eat until you return to the ground from which you were made. For you were made from dust, and to dust you will return."" (Genesis 3:19 NLT)
By all of the ways we see ourselves doing whatever it is that we set out to do, this is by far the most important part of the journey: The End! The NLT has the word, "travail," alone with the key, "to be exercised in it," as "burden." Oddly enough, life is all about the journey to the end; some will make it sooner than others, but the real travail in this, is learning to be humble!
What does it really take to follow Jesus? The Humble Heart! What does it mean to have a humble heart? Jesus used the heart of a child to illustrate what this means, saying, "I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of God." (Matthew 18:3 NLT)
We grow up asking question, "Where do babies come from?' or 'What makes the sun come up every morning?' as if these are things we need to know or understand. How about this one: 'What happens when I die?' As I can recall, I remember the first funeral I went to, which was my mother's father, the one we called, "Little Grandpa," who I wondered where he went, and why was he dead?
Asking questions, although they might be silly or seem stupid to some, when we are wanting to know how to follow the Lord, everything involves questions and the need to know, because He is Lord! If we take it upon ourselves to do certain things, we are being prideful and thinking we know what works! (I feel as though we have been down this road before!)
The main point about Pastor Luke's message in the movie, "Holy Roller," was that we fail to ask God for directions! We drive around in circles thinking that we will find the right place, but we get further and further away from where we should be, all because we didn't ask for directions...
"I know, LORD, that our lives are not our own. We are not able to plan our own course." (Jeremiah 10:23 NLT)
