"The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me." (John 5:7 KJV)
"Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool." (Isaiah 1:18 KJV)
To take a little walk with God, for just a moment, imagine that you were just wanting to be enlightened and wanted to know what it is that He was looking for in a believer. I know it might not appear as though it is practical to do; but in all seriousness, it is exactly what I believe that God expects for us to do. Why else did He make His word available to us, but that we might know His heart!
The certain man is now impotent! Powerless, is more like it; even though that might be the correct condition of his health, when it comes his ability to be made right with God, it is an understatement, because he cannot even scrape himself off of his mat! Does anyone know how this must make him feel?
Not sure if there is another way around this, but it would appear that this certain man might hold some things in his heart; things which are like anchors that keep holding him down, knocking him down, and keeping him from even wanting to try to get up again. Does anyone know what this might feel like?
Now imagine if there is one thing that you might have some ability to do, but might not think you do; and even if you did, you do not want to do, because you cannot bring yourself to do it: What should you do? Maybe sleep on it and try again tomorrow...
"Hear my prayer, O LORD, give ear to my supplication: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness. And enter not into judgments with thy servant: for in thy sight shall no man living be justified." (Psalms 143:1-2 KJV)
