"And when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:" (Ecclesiastes 12:5 KJV)
"So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God's will. Then you will receive all that he has promised. "For in just a little while, the coming One will come and not delay. And my righteous ones will live by faith. But I take no pleasure in anyone who turns away." But we are not like those who turn away from God to their own destruction. We are the faithful ones, whose souls will be saved." (Hebrews 10:35-39 NLT)
As the issues spoken of in the last verse were things that were flipped from bad to good; these are the things which cause us to feel afraid of God's judgment, fearful of the path we are on, when fear is taking over and there is an allusion of being on your own, as you watch your material things get eaten up, and you feel like giving up; feeling this life is all there is, as you imagine what death might be, and who might actually mourn for you, once you are gone.
Each and every one of these are things that have attachment to the world; this life we live out, sometimes with the fear of life itself, sometimes with the right fear, the fear of the LORD! We are all pretty much the same when it comes to the relationship we have with God: we all have good days and bad days; days when we completely trust in the Lord with all of hearts, and days when we fall short, feeling as though we don't have the grip we once had; feeling out of sorts.
I have the "Footprints in the Sand" thing on my wall by the coffee makers, as it sometimes gets looked at early in the morning. We must never forget, the Lord has a hold on us; we are His special treasure, and He paid a very costly price for our souls. He is not letting go of us, ever! We have been given new life that cannot be taken away; we have already won the battle, now we wait, patiently, to go home...
"I am writing to you who are God's children because your sins have been forgiven through Jesus. I am writing to you who are mature in the faith because you know Christ, who existed from the beginning. I am writing to you who are young in the faith because you have won your battle with the evil one. I have written to you who are God's children because you know the Father. I have written to you who are mature in the faith because you know Christ, who has existed from the beginning. I have written to you who are young in the faith because you are strong. God's word lives in your hearts, and you have won your battle with the evil one." (1 John 2:12-14 NLT)
