"Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water." (John 3:10 KJV)
"But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them." (Matthew 13:16-17 KJV)
Now then, if you have had a chance to share the Good News with anyone, then you must know what it does to your own soul when you do; because it makes you realize, in that moment, that you not only have a soul, but that you have surely been blessed with the Holy Spirit. This is the "Living Water" that Jesus is talking about: It is the flow of God's Spirit in and through your life!
One of the first things I discovered as a new believer, was that I always felt more energized when I shared Jesus with anyone. It was abundantly clear to me that it was something I needed to do, whether I felt like doing it or not. But, if I did not share to someone that I felt prompted to share with, then I knew right then and there I failed; for several hours, or even on through the night, I would be bothered by the fact that I did not obey God's prompting; for whatever reason, it was just something that felt wrong.
Yearly on in my walk, I received a teaching about the Dead Sea and why it was dead in the first place; that it was because it not have water flowing in and out of it. Stagnate water becomes dead; and stagnate water that is left that way, will become a home to parasites, that will feed off of living matter. I know that sounds pretty ugly and might even look like it could be a cesspool or something terrible to be around; but I also hope it helps you to see what might happen if you do not let the Living Water flow!
Anywho; no matter the matter, if you have truly been Born Again, somehow, someway, there will be a Creature that comes to life! I don't care if you have been living in that cesspool for 30 years or more; if you are God's child, you will be used of God sooner or later, in some form or fashion! That's not a prediction, that is a fact! Heck, you might not even know you did anything, and with your dying breath you felt as if you never did; and then God will use something you left behind, and then make beauty from ashes; if that's what it takes!
Besides all of that mumble-jumble, the Real Gift is Jesus Christ! He is the Gift given to the world! It is by His righteousness that we are able to become a child of God; and because we are made God's children through Christ Jesus, we are bought into this wonderful inheritance, something we could have never have earned in thousands of lifetimes. This one little life, it becomes an abundant life, with just One spectacular and amazing Gift!
Therefore, we don't really have to do anything: but it sure feels good to do something...
"No, you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to the countless thousands of angels in joyful gatherings. You have come to the assembly of God's firstborn children, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God himself, who is judge over all things. You have come to the spirits of the righteous ones in heaven who have now been made perfect. You have come to Jesus, the one who mediates the new covenant between God and people, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks of forgiveness instead of crying out for vengeance like the blood of Able. Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking. For if the people of Israel did not escape when they refused to listen to Moses, the earthly messenger, we will certainly not escape if we reject the One who speaks to us from heaven!" (Hebrews 12:22-25 NLT)
