"He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him." (John 3:36 KJV)
"For example, there was God's promise to Abraham. Since there was no one greater to swear by, God took an oath in his own name, saying, "I will certainly bless you, and I will multiply your descendants beyond number." Then Abraham waited patently, and he received what God had promised." (Hebrews 6:13-15 NLT)
Maybe we don't get to see what we have been given; but the fact that God has promised us eternal life, is enough to give us life in His promise! God does not lie! Abraham passed before the fulfillment of what God said He would do, as he was not here long enough to see descendants beyond number; but he was blessed in knowing that God was going to make it happen; just trusting in God to perform it, that was enough to give him hope and joy for what was to come, regardless of whether or not he was around to see it fulfilled.
I hope we see what this means and how it is that we must use this as our quest to make it through to the other side. This is what faith is meant to be, a reason for hope, which is not based upon what we see, but what we believe is going to happen, because God has promised that it would! It is by our believing, that we are given hope; if we do not believe, then there is no hope, just misery and death to look forward to, instead of a chance for something great and wonderful. Who wants to live like that!
I guess what I am trying to say, is that there is a great benefit in our belief, even if there might be some chance it does not have the outcome we might hope for; we have the gift of blessings in this life by looking forward towards the next. 'Yes, but what if my life is not blessed, and my life is miserable and filled with pain and suffering?' Something to think about, don't you think?
Okay, let's pretend it was so, and you have nothing here that gives you any sort of comfort, at all. You might even have been mortally wounded, physically destroyed, or your life torn apart, beyond the chance of it being put back together again. What is it that could possibly give you hope and make you feel blessed? It could come easily and without much effort...
""The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the LORD'S favor has come."" (Luke 4:18-19 NLT)
