"But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be manifest, that they are wrought in God." (John 3:21 KJV)
""I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings."" (Jeremiah 17:10 KJV)
Better off to be on God's side, than not! That is my observation, if you are asking; then again, if you want to try and find some other way, you are bound to find many different groups that you can join; but they will not be going in the right direction, if they are not following Jesus!
This word, "wrought," is pretty interesting, because it is a lot like the word commit, much like you might commit to do something, as exercising or work ethic; in other words, it requires doing something, but with the intention to make something or advance a certain outcome. The NLT uses the phase, "so others can see that they are doing what God wants."
If you will, we can take Abel's sacrifice as an example, because he was doing what God wanted; which caused Cain to notice. When we do outwardly that which pleases God, there are bound to be those that will be offended; but there will also be those that will be drawn towards the Lord by what we do. In the case of Abel's sacrifice, his was pleading forgiveness; while Cain's was asking for blessings.
To be totally frank, forgiveness is thousands times better than blessings! You do the math and figure that out on you own, because my math may actually be a little off! Besides that, when you are filled with joy, not because you might be given blessings, but because you have forgiveness, there is so much more to take notice of, as there is something more that others are missing.
We have something that is very valuable and only comes from one direction, Jesus Christ! There is really no other way to explain what really needs no explanation, just demonstration...
"You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. How foolish! Can't you see that faith without good deeds is useless?" (James 2:19-20 NLT)
