"My beloved is white and ruddy, the chiefest among ten thousand." (S.O.S. 5:10)
Before you think of your answer, which is not even really a question, you must think first of what the subject is and how much you really want to know. If the subject is talking about who He is, then that is something you should already know, because He has made that apparent to you when He came into your heart. But, there was another subject, much more pressing and personal: Who is He to you, and why is He more than enough, to you! Pressing and Personal!
Anywho, we have before us something of a mystery about perspective; as I presented the NLT version of this yesterday, the description said, "dark and dazzling," which seems somewhat different from, "white and ruddy." Looking up the word for "white", it would appear that there really is no apparent reason for there to be the "dark" translation we see in the NLT; except when you try and figure it out! Case in point, would be the example given to Peter, as he proclaimed who he believed Jesus was, saying, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God," Jesus then answered, "Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven." (Matthew 16:16-17)
This is not something that just anyone can begin to understand; it is not something that is made easy to perceive, not unless the Father has given you this, shall we say, seed of knowledge. Isn't interesting how a seed knows which way to go? It doesn't really matter which way you plant it in the soil, it will still grow up towards the surface. I remember as a child, planting my seeds with the slit to the top, thinking that would somehow make them grow straighter and stronger. I really did not have any real sense of direction back then!
Then we have this word, "ruddy," which is translated as, "dazzling," in the NLT. Riddle is not really what I want to be dealing with right now, but if you we are going to go exploring, why not pretend that we are actually on an exploration. Remember, Pressing and Personal...
"With Christ as my witness, I speak with utter truthfulness. My conscience and the Holy Spirit confirm it. My heart is filled with bitter sorrow and unending grief for my people, my Jewish brothers and sisters. I would be willing to be forever cursed -cut off from Christ! -if that would save them. They are the people of Israel, chosen to be God's adopted children. God revealed his glory to them. He made covenants with them and gave them his law. He gave them the privilege of worshipping him and receiving his wonderful promises. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are their ancestors, and Christ himself was an Israelite as far as his human nature is concerned. And he is God, the one who rules over everything and is worthy of eternal praise! Amen." (Romans 9:1-5) NLT
