"Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, turn, my beloved, and be thou like a roe or a young hart upon the mountains of Bether." (S.O.S. 2:17)
If you are familiar with the message about the covenant that God made with Abraham, then you are no doubt familiar with the place where that covenant was signed, and how it was signed. As I was thinking about this, it dawned on me how hard it is to love God with everything that is within me. Don't ask me why or what this might have to do with that; except that we have the tendency to want what we want, even though it is not what God might want for us.
The basic premise is that of us letting God have His way in us, regardless of what we need or what we think we need, that His way is always best, even if it might seem the hardest. Not that this is all that there is to it; because, if you know how the covenant was signed, then you understand that the only one who signed it was God!
The hardest part of this covenant we have entered into has been taken care of, because He has taken the part of our side of the agreement upon Himself! This is about that time when shock and awe are made part of the covenant; we have a part, and that is pretty much what it is: to be swept away be this amazing God of ours, who commands so much love, and yet gives us more of His love than we can ever even pretend to give back!
You might be familiar with the term, "Come hell or high water," this is pretty much that term, but it has a twist; the twist being that it is God who carries out what must be done; and it is done "Come hell or high water." Be that as it may, this is what we must hope for and long for; making His will for our lives our priority, even if it might hurt a little or a lot; in spite of and difficulties or problems, we trust that God will get us through any and all of it, because He loves us!
I think you can see what it means to fear God, because it surely does not mean to be afraid of Him! It is a lot like when Jesus said, "If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple." (Luke 14:26) What it means to us, if we are not doing the work or putting forth the effort, then what is left is nothing but surrender...
"The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light." (Romans 13:12)
