"Behold that which I have seen: It is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion." (Ecclesiastes 5:18 KJV)
"Unless the LORD builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the LORD protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good. It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones." (PSALM 127:1-2 NLT)
Something to say about listening to God; but if you do hear His voice, you had better hear what He says and commit yourself to obeying! I am pretty sure that we all have done this, hearing God tell us a word that should convict us, and then thinking that word was meant for someone else. We hear God say: 'Don't gossip about anyone,' thinking right off the bat, 'God is talking about so and so!'
Well, that is a pretty deep subject; more importantly, it is something most everyone does, without even giving it thought. How is this even remotely relevant to anything? Because it is the one thing that is done, in many people's lives, without even knowing they are not pleasing the Lord: as a matter of fact, He does not like it at all!
This Psalm is one that belongs to Solomon, as he shares about the house the LORD builds. It is really not about building a house, but about building a life! This involves families and business, or whatever else you might make the passion of this life here on this earth. If God isn't in the building of it, it is all wasted!
That said, I do believe that God can correct our mistakes! If it involves anything that we have done, we must do everything in our power to make things right; and if it isn't in our power to do anything, then we give it to God to make it right! This is good, no matter what you might have done, you must do what is good!
I can't help but think of Jonah, who did all that he could to not go to Nineveh, as the LORD told him to do; even to the point of giving up his own life, telling those in the ship he was hiding on, that they needed to throw him overboard, if they wanted to be saved from the terrible storm. God intervenes!
Even when we don't want to do what is right, if we are God's servant, He will make a way for us to do what is right, one way or another. This is something that we see throughout the Bible; over and over in the lives of so many of God's servants.
Here is what I am trying to say: If you are His servant, then the house you build, even if you think it was you that built it, it is actually built by God...
"What if the LORD had not been on our side? Let all Israel repeat: What if the LORD had not been on our side when people attacked us? They would have swallowed us alive in their burning anger. The waters would have engulfed us; a torrent would have overwhelmed us. Yes, the raging waters of their fury would have overwhelmed our very lives. Praise the LORD, who did not let their teeth tear us apart! We escaped like a bird from a hunter's trap. The trap is broken, and we are free! Our help is from the LORD, who made heaven and earth." (PSALM 124 NLT)
