"Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel." (John 7:21 KJV)
"These things hast thou done, and I kept silence, thou thoughtest that I was altogether such a one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes. Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there is none to deliver. Whoso offereth praise glorifieh me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I show the salvation of God." (Psalms 50:21-23 KJV)
It might seem not very important, at least at first glance; especially since those of us that know who Jesus really is, we expect for Him to be worshiped and honored. But for those who do not know or believe, it just doesn't make much sense. Think about the one that is writing this, the one that is telling the story; in an effort to show who Jesus really is, John simplifies what he writes into one continuous message: Jesus is God!
Just in case you might not know, the first eighteen verses of John's Gospel, is believed by some to be a prologue or forward to the message that he is about to write about. Then, at the end of his message, he gives a summary of all that he tries to get across, by saying, "And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen." (John 21:25)
Okay, maybe I need to help you with the key to this little mystery: Who is it that can perform a mighty work with just a word? "And God said, Let there be light: and there was light." (Genisis 1:3 KJV) How is it that speaking a few words on the Sabbath, might be considered breaking the law, unless the words that are spoken actually get things done?
No doubt about it, only God can make things happen with just a word, because His Word works...
"Yes, remember your Creator now while you are young, before the silver cord of life snaps and the golden bowl is broken. Don't wait until the water jar is smashed at the spring and the pulley is broken at the well. For then the dust will return to the earth, and the spirit will return to God who gave it. "Everything is meaningless," says the Teacher, "completely meaningless."" (Ecclesiastes 12:6-8 NLT)
