"Thy teeth are like a flock of sheep that are even shorn, which came up from washing; whereof every one bear twins, and none is barren among them." (S.O.S. 4:2)
Just a small little thing, I think not! You see, there is a very big reason why we must be bold and make our voice be heard; faith is something you cannot put on a shelf, as if it is a trophy or award for having done something: it must be put to use and tested, you either use it or loose it, because it is not faith unless it is put to work!
Let's try and look at this from a totally different perspective; say, if you will, that this word, "teeth," for the sake of argument, actually meant works; works meaning the things that are done and born out of faith. Works all alone are nothing but filthy rags to God: it is as if you are taking something that is meant to be clean, rubbing it all over your filthy body, and then presenting it to God; as if it is some sort of sign of righteousness being presented to Him.
This is not the kind of works that James is speaking about, when he says, "Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone." (James 2:17) This is the whole point of what it means for those of us that believe to be justified: if we have no sin, those works which once were filthy rags, and made clean; our hands are clean, and so is our body! Being justified in Christ, we are no longer presenting our works as if they are for cleansing; these are works of faith in the God that we love!
If you want to make it easier to understand, you could relate it to the parable of the "talents." We find this parable in Matthew 25:14-30, as Jesus is speaking about "Responsibility in God's Kingdom." In this parable, Jesus places Himself in the position of a man traveling into a far country. Before he goes, he calls his servants to him, and then he gives them, "his goods," to watch over while he is away. I am pretty sure you can see how important it was that they watched over everything he had earned, all that he had; because, everything that was his, he divided among them, and said: "Occupy till I come." (Luke 19:13)
This is not a matter of keeping anything! You can only keep what you give away: It must be put to good use...
"For "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, "How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news?"" (Romans 10:13-15) NLT
