"I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help." (Psalms 121:1)
When I first brought my wife home, a friend of ours gave us a CD that was called "Comfort." I had let someone else use it when they were suffering with four-stage cancer, and have not seen it since, nor have I been able to replace it. It had several children singing on it, all of which had been diagnosed with terminal cancer, and most of them went home to be with the Lord. The reason I bring that up, is because this song was both sung and spoken on that CD. I would play it every night as we went to sleep, and it was not only soothing, but it helped to memorize what this Psalm means; because it is not about this life, living on this earth and being cared for in ways that are for or of the current physical life. I guess if you were dealing with something that dealt with the end of this physical life, you could relate to what it is that I am talking about. The help that this speaks about is that of not only just dealing with death, but getting life! The hills don't speak about something that you can climb up, go up to look around, or even that kind of mountain you can actually see, like looking up a a big mountain. The hills represent the place beyond, much like where Moses went before he was seen no more. This journey we are on has a place where we are headed, one way or another, it is the place we all are going to go and we are all going to meet up! To put it in a little better light, it is a place of rejoicing and gladness; a place where we have our hope and where we will lift up our eyes to, as we are transported there by His Heavenly hosts! The mens conference that I was at this last Saturday reminded me of how close we are to getting to this place, the place of actually being able to see those hills! I you have ever watched the movie, "The Robe," then you might recall Richard Burton and Jean Simmons waking out to be fed to the lions; they did not see lions waiting for their arrival, they saw a glorious kingdom awaiting on the horizon. That is where we are going with this, because the help we need most is the kind that keeps our eyes on the prize...
"This is a vision the Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem: In the last days, the mountain of the LORD'S house will be the highest of all -the most important place on earth. It will be raised above the other hills, and people from all over the world will stream there to worship. People from many nations will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of Jacob's God. There he will teach us his ways, and we will walk in his paths." For the LORD'S teachings will go out from Zion; his word will go out from Jerusalem. The LORD will mediate between nations and will settle international disputes. They will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will no longer fight against nation, nor train for war anymore." (Isaiah 2:1-4) NLT
