"He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;" (Psalms 104:14)
If you really wanted to get technical, there is so much more to this than we think that we know. It is God that produces the desire in us to draw near to Him; on our own, we would most likely not even give Him the time of day. That's pretty ironic, considering that it is God who gives us our days here on this earth. We think we live and die based upon our own manner of living, or by chance; but it is God that gives and takes away, everything, including life. As far as we can tell, our life is all about trying to stay alive and be happy; that's the way most of us were raised, so it is pretty much all that we know. But Jesus spoke of a completely different life, I life where happiness is found in faith, the faith of knowing that God loves you and has a purpose for your life. That is probably the biggest single issue among the youth of today, they are confused about having purpose. Never mind that they do not know God loves them; how can they know that He loves them if they have no belief in a Creator. If everything is all due to chance, then chances are they are just here. That is a pretty lonely place to be, especially if you are going through something that you don't understand or that is overwhelming. As I was praying about this verse this morning, I could not help but picture David sitting out under the stars, thinking upon how God makes everything work together. Beef stew is probably what was on his mind at the time; then again, it could have been something altogether different, something like trying to understand why God loved him so much. Do you ever find yourself thinking about that? Wondering why God would love you so much, even though you are so disrespectful of His great love? I am sure that is just me, because no one can ever disrespect the love of God. Sometimes it's the simple things in life that cause us to take the greatest notice. Maybe because the simple things are the easiest to understand...
"Then God said, "Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish of the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground." So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Then God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground." Then God said, "Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food. And I have given every green plant as food for all the wild animals, the birds in the sky, and the small animals that scurry along the ground -everything that has life." And that is what happened. Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good!" (Genesis 1:26-31) NLT
