"Altogether Lovely"

"Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:"
(Psalms 104:2)
I guess you could say that love is greater than all of that other stuff, but without that stuff, love is hardly appreciated. There really are two separate thoughts with one drawn conclusion, that God is Holy, and God is Powerful; the conclusion is that He what He is, period! I was going to say that it is by choice, but then something inside me said that God does not have a choice, it is who He is. He does not decide to be Holy, He is Holy because He is Holy; He does not decide to be Powerful, He is just Powerful! Amazingly Powerful! That is one of the things that blows my mind most of all, that Jesus had everything at His disposal; He could have called fire to come down from heaven and devour every one of those that punished and tormented Him; He could have caused them to all go blind with just a look. As powerful as He was, He restrained Himself from doing anything that would disrupt the Father's plan; that is some kind of amazing power! That kind of power is the kind the becomes Holiness; having the ability to resist based upon knowing the right thing to do. I believe that God gives us that ability also, we just choose not to allow Him to do it. It is pretty obvious to us what our sins are; we know beforehand that what we do is sinful. Yet, we continue to do it anyway, without even asking for His help to overcome the temptation. That is not the case for all of our sins, only for the sins that we like and refuse to let go of. If only we could be as strong as Jesus; if only we could withstand being tempted. I don't care who you are, throw the right temptation your way, and you will leap at the chance to take it. Jesus had power to do things that could have made things so much more pleasant for Him here, but He chose to be humble and obedient to the Father. In that regard, He did clothe Himself in Light; it was what He wore because He chose to wear it. I guess the whole point to all of this is about loveliness. He is Altogether Lovely, and we should want the same for ourselves. If there is darkness in our lives, then it needs to come out; the darkness is not lovely, and it does not belong. Remember what you are, the spotless bride of the Lamb! He has made us that way, it is not what we have done to make it happen; but that does not mean that we get to throw mud on ourselves, whenever we feel like it. This is for me, and in my heart, I am placing my name in place of Timothy...
"But you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all of these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have confessed so well before many witnesses. And I charge you before God, who gives life to all, and before Christ Jesus, who gave a good testimony before Pontius Pilate, that you obey this command without wavering. Then no one can find fault in you from now until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. For at just the right time Christ will be revealed from heaven by the blessed and only almighty God, the King of all kings and Lord of all lords. He alone can never die, and he lives in light so brilliant that no human can approach him. No human eye has ever seen him, nor ever will. All honor and power to him forever! Amen."
(1 Timothy 6:11-16) NLT

  1. Thank you for this. What a great reminder to never let ourselves get complacent and to always pursue Him!
