"Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O LORD." (Psalms 83:16) Regardless of who you are or what you might be capable of doing, you are not going to stand against the power of God. It's really quite simple, so simple that it almost seems unbelievable. God wants us to realize that we need Him to save us from ourselves and that He loves us and that He provided the way to be saved. You cannot deny you are unable to do anything to prevent your own death; countless stories and movies have been written to try a portray ways to make it happen, but all those are only fiction. Oddly enough, eternal life is not fiction; and for those that believe in Christ Jesus, eternity is more real than life itself. I know that might sound foolish to say; but it really depends on your definition of life and living. We have been so spoiled by so many different things, we hardly realize sometimes how much hardship there is all around us. Everywhere there are people suffering and dying all day long. According to the average mortality rate, there are 107 deaths in the world per minute; that's 6,390 deaths per hour; which is about 153,000 deaths per day. Now that might not seem like so much, not compared to the population of the planet; but my point is more about the flight of souls leaving this earth, at a rate of 1.78 souls per second. So you tell me, which life matters the most? Personally, I will place my bets on the next life over this one, and day of the week! Even the biggest most hardened person alive, when faced with death, they are powerless to overcome the grave. There is a very close parallel between our ability to overcome death and sin; both of which are impossible for us to overcome on our own...
"But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment. Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live, looking forward to the day of God and hurrying it along. On that day, he will set the heavens on fire, and the elements will melt away in the flames. But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world filled with God's righteousness." (2 Peter 3:10-13) NLT
