"For God gives to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit." (Ecclesiastes 2:26 KJV)
"For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. If you serve Christ with this attitude, you will please God, and others will approve of you, too. So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up." (Romans 14:17-19 NLT)
Whatever you might think about rich verses poor, nothing in this life matters more than the relationship that you have with God! If you have great wealth, and you have no relationship with God, you are poor in spirit, and you really have nothing at all! If you are poor, yet have a close relationship with God, you are rich in the Spirit, and you have the wealth of God's Kingdom to look forward to!
What we think is important in this life, has no value at all, if it doesn't involve God: the things we get, the things we give, nothing of the world is not God's to give and take away; He is the One that gives, and He is the One that takes away! That said, this is not something what we live for, to be given worldly things from God!
Not really something we sometimes really think about, but it is something that is sometimes preached about, as if God is there waiting for us to ask Him for something nice, like a new car or home, maybe even a wonderful vacation getaway. There are those that get people stirred up and emotional about stuff like that; yet the ones that end up with the goods, are the ones that make all the false promises.
Anywho! I don't really want to get negative, because this is more about something that is a part of most everyone's life, somehow, in some way or another. James makes this point, saying, "What is causing quarrels and fights among you? Don't they come from the evil desires at war within you?" (James 4:1 NLT)
Just the thought of God's favoritism towards someone else, while you feel it should be you, that alone is sin! God has no favorite child; because we are all His children, and He loves us all the same! What is, is, and God has a reason; what will be, will be, because God has a purpose! We are only told to love Him, and to love one another; everything is not important, nor does it matter!
If you really want to ask God for something that you need, ask Him for more love...
"If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn't love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God's secret plans, and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn't love others, I would be nothing. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn't love others, I would have gained nothing." (1 Corinthians 13:1-3 NLT)
