"Meanwhile, as Simon Peter was standing by the fire warming himself, they asked him again, "You're not one of his disciples, are you?"
He denied it, saying, "No, I am not."
But one of the household slaves of the high priest, a relative of the man those ear Peter had cut off, asked, "Didn't I see you out there in the olive grove with Jesus?" Again Peter denied it. And immediately a rooster crowed." (John 18:25-27 NLT)
"Set me a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned." (The Song of Solomon 8:6-7 KJV)
Now, having been in some situations that felt, say we say, awkward, to say the least, it is really not that hard to imagine what Peter might have been feeling in this situation. I would gather by his mannerisms; he just wants to warm himself by the fire and be left alone; which at this point in time, was not happening!
Add to that, the fact that John has left out a few serious facts; one being that Peter cursed, the other being that look from Jesus, as soon as the rooster crowed! There actually is something to this, somewhat lack of information. The little things that we might share about one another are somewhat harmless and mostly in just; but the things which seem big and meaningful, we dare not share or boast about.
That only really counts for those you care about and truly love, as it was with John and Peter. Yes, they might have had some competitive moments, but there was a bond between them that could not be broken, as they were brothers in Christ, sworn to love one another!
It is believed that John had written this message towards the end of his life. By that time, most, if not all of the other disciples had been killed, but John they seemingly could not kill, even though they had tried. It is also said that John would have been taken up to the front of the room, wherever he was speaking, seated on a chair, and lifted up to deliver a massage. The message, so they say, was three simple words: "Love One Another."
Please watch what you say about one another! My mom would always say, "If you don't have something good to say about someone, don't say anything." "Set me a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm." Show off your love for one another...
"If someone says, "I love God," but hates a Christian brother or sister, that person is a liar; for if we don't love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see? And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their Christian brothers and sisters." (1 John 4:20-21 KJV)
