"Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man's disciples? He saith, I am not." (John 18:17 KJV)
"The night watchmen found me as they made their rounds. They beat and bruised me and stripped off my veil, those watchmen on the walls. Make this promise, O women of Jerusalem - If you find my lover, tell him I am weak with love." (Song of Songs 5:7-8 NLT)
Okay, so we sometimes don't get it right! It isn't really a surprise the God; He knows are frame, our weaknesses, and the sometimes cold and hard hearts! But He still keeps loving us, regardless of the stupid things we might do; even when we might refuse to acknowledge Him for the love, He has poured out for us!
This is not really something that Peter thought he would do, as we should remember that he said, with confidence, ""I will lay down my life for thy sake?" But it really did not enter his mind, that he would not acknowledge that he knew Him, just to save his own life; at the very least, to not be embarrassed!
As you might recall, if you were following this blog during the Song of Songs period, that I believe the Women of Jerusalem might have represented the Holy Spirit; or at least, the spiritual condition of our hearts. This is actually very much a part of the "Full Armor of God!"
If you have studied those articles of our warfare, they really are all one unit, none of which should be left out, because they are all needed to be the "Full Armor of God." When I shared on this, quite some time ago, there was three items, even four, counting the belt, which is worn: the breastplate of righteousness, the helmet of salvation, those shoes that spread the Gospel, and then, that belt of Truth!
Not that any one of them is really greater than the other, but the helmet of salvation is what protects our mind; that part of us which has the ability to not think sometimes! It sometimes does not remember what it is that we hold firmly within our hearts! We are saved! There is no turning back on this...
"We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves." (2 Corinthians 4:7 NLT)
