"What is the Matter"

"Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?" (John 14:22 KJV)

"Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called: mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied." (Jude 1:1-2 KJV)

There are some days when we need to just be quite and listen for what God might be saying, and then there are those days when we need to ask Him why we don't understand what He said. This might be one of those days, as it appears that there are too many opinions that are contrary to the Way, Truth, and Life!

As to this, other, Judas; it would be hard to pinpoint exactly, but many scholars point out that he might be a brother of Jesus, and he is referred to as the brother of James, in Luke 6:16. The Scripture above from Jude, is there because Jude references that he is the brother of James; yet neither he or James refer to themselves as brothers of Jesus, but that they are servants of Jesus Christ.

The only reason I point this out, is the fact that both Judas' were pretty much on the same page when it came to their understanding of who Jesus might have been, as they were both looking for Him to be the one that would free the Jews from Roman rule. The point of the question gives Judas away; as he is looking at Jesus from a worldly point of view, but Jesus is speaking about spiritual things, that are not of this world.

Hopefully we don't do that too; but I am pretty confident it happens from time to time, with almost every believer! It happened to John the Baptist, as he was in jail. He once proclaimed Jesus, saying, "Behold, the Lamb of God, that takes away the sins of the world," and then from jail, he sends a disciple to ask of Jesus, "Are you he that should come, or do we look for another?" (Matthew 11:3)

It was because of his circumstance that John doubted who Jesus was. This is really not that hard to happen, if we focus upon the here and now, taking our eyes off of the There and Then...

"But you, my dear friends, must remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ said. They told you that in the last times there would be scoffers whose purpose in life is to satisfy their ungodly desires. These people are the ones who are creating divisions among you. They follow their natural instincts because they do not have God's Spirit in them. But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you keep yourselves safe in God's love." (Jude 1:17-21 NLT)
