"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." (John 14:26 KJV)
"The LORD is good and does what is right; he shows the proper path to those who go astray. He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them his way. The LORD leads with unfailing love and faithfulness all who keep his covenant and obey his commands." (Psalm 25:8-10 NLT)
Whatever state you are currently in, feeling lost or having problems with direction, there is good news to help you get back on track: Pray that God would fill you with His Spirit! If that doesn't seem to work, then pray more fervently and with more humility and passion! Do not stop asking for what you need, because God is faithful to provide what you need; you have got to need it more than the stuff you are holding on to.
That is my take on this, if anyone wants to know. The Holy Spirit will not force us to do anything, but He will instruct us to do what is right. If we continually fail to listen to what He says and do it, then He will back off, letting you learn a lesson in what it means to listen. It is like this: You are headed for disaster, and you hear the word, "Stop," but you do not stop! That was not a suggestion, that was a command!
Oh, but wait; I said the Holy Spirit does not force you, yet He gives us commands; isn't that being a tad bit forceful? You know, I really wish He would be more forceful, because I am so hard-headed, I need to be made to do certain things. I think most of us are like that, as we have a list of things to do, but most of those things don't get done, until they must get done, or else.
Another thing my mom would say, "Don't put off for tomorrow, what you can do today!" That might not sit well with some, but if you are looking for instruction from God, do not wait for the right time: The Time is Now!!!
Reminds me of the Scripture where Jesus says, "Follow me," and then some people start making excuses about needing to do something else first. There is absolutely nothing more important than following Jesus, whatever it is and wherever He leads you! We must have a servant's heart, which is willing to obey whatever we are told, no matter the cost. (Note to self: Obey!)
This is about doing something now, not tomorrow! If the Lord is telling you that something needs to be done, then do it as if He is stopping you from going the wrong way! Repent and turn around, making the rest of your life guided by needed instruction...
"Then, teaching them more about prayer, he used this story: "Suppose you went to a friends house at midnight, wanting to borrow three loaves of bread. You say to him, 'A friend of mine has just arrived for a visit, and I have nothing for him to eat.' And suppose he calls out from his bedroom, 'Don't bother me. The door is locked for the night, and my family and I are all in bed. I can't help you.' But I tell you this - though he won't do it for friendship's sake, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence. "And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. "You fathers - if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? Or is they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him."" (Luke 11:5-13 NLT)
