"Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word." (John 8:43 KJV)
"For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself." (Philippians 3:20-21 KJV)
If you really want to know, I think we will be overcome with sadness for those we do not see with us in heaven, as it will be something of a regret that we did not do more to persuade them that they needed to accept Jesus into their hearts. However, the Bible clearly says, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." (Revelation 21:4 KJV)
As crazy as it might sound, our salvation in Christ trumps just about everything and anything else; as long as we are truly sorrowful and regret the sin we commit, He is more than faithful to forgive us! There is quite a bit of debate on this subject, so we should not flaunt this gift of salvation we have been given, because it is not about anything else, but what Christ has done!
As for this passage, obviously Jesus is asking a rhetorical question. He really is not asking them why they cannot understand, but simply telling them that understanding comes by hearing, which is something they cannot do, because they do not understand the dialect that He is speaking! He is speaking things that are from and towards heaven; something they cannot understand, because they live for and about the things of this earth.
Yes, you heard right. Even though they were very religious, compared to most, their religion was all about standing in this world, not about a relationship with God. There is absolutely nothing that matters more to God than the relationship established by the blood of His Son! He did that for us, that we might come to the table and have fellowship with Him, a Holy and Righteous God!
Basically, it doesn't matter what language that you speak; as long as you speak, "Jesus, and Him crucified," you will always have a seat at the table...
"But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord; for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I might win Christ, and be found in him, not having my own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; if by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead." (Philippians 3:7-11 KJV)
